looking out the window
at a tall pine swaying in the breeze...
i do not know what you are
what are you?
i am a house
a fence
a wooden block
a toy car
a fire to keep you warm
a fire to clear acres of land
i am oxygen
and Christmas decorations
a scent for your closet
a scent to fill your lungs in the breeze on a hike
i'm a cabin in the olden days
a boat
a tepee
a shelter
fuel to cook your food
i am the soil
a home for birds and squirrels, insects
and creeping slimy and rough organisms of all kinds
i keep deer alive in the winter
give aspirin to dull your pain
my turpentine serves artists and mechanics
and all kinds of uses
i am toothpicks to clean your teeth
pick up sticks
and bird nests
2x4's
tree houses
Saturday afternoon projects bonding
sons and dads
dog houses
scout projects
old skiis
tables
chairs
floors
on and on and on...
wood carvers the world over
the plaque on your wall
that holds your sacred words
the frame around your art
and your children and your friends
what are you
i ask
again
and again
and again
there is no end
of ways
to be
of service
to the whole
now
we ask
to ourselves
what are you?
today
we would
open
and stay open
to all
we
are.....
what are you?
just listen....
all day
just listen,
let
the answer
be given
you
hear
the Universe
share your joy
your service
of
existence
