the virus of ingratitude
topples the blessings,
like dominoes they fall
into denial,
blocked from awareness
ingratitude looks,
but doesn't see
the innocent
fresh
unfathomable
it does not see
it does not see

while yet the heart is filled
and bursting ever open,
ingratitude walks right by
the hands out held with gifts
and sees only lack
sees only a problem,
while an entire amazing
universe
shimmers,
just waiting
to be tasted
just sitting there
ripe
only gratitude
will ever show it to you
that newborn infant,
that baby smell,
in your arms
now
